Employee Engagement Gifts That Make People Feel Part of the Team

The best employee engagement gifts are things your team uses every week that make them feel part of something. Think custom socks in your colors, a team beanie, a desk tumbler or a pin for a work anniversary. Pair each one with a few lines from a manager about something that person did this year. For the 2026 holidays, approve your designs by November 20 to have gifts in hand by December 18.

The note matters as much as the gift. Gallup's workplace research found that as of May 2026, only 31% of U.S. employees were engaged at work. A gift alone won't change that, but recognition helps: in a study by Gallup and Workhuman, well-recognized employees were 45% less likely to have left after two years. A box of generic swag with no message wastes that chance.

Pick the gift by what you want it to do

Start with the goal, not the catalog. Every idea below is a Sock Fancy product you can brand with your logo and colors. Each has a 50-piece minimum and takes 2 to 3 weeks to make.

To make people feel part of the team

Team socks in your colors. Custom crew socks are the easy yes: everyone wears them, and a good pair lasts. Sock Fancy's use 200 needle knitting, a combed cotton blend, a no slip cuff and a reinforced toe and heel. Skip the plain logo. Put your mascot, a team inside joke or the year on them, so people want to wear them on a Friday.

A beanie they'll wear outside work. A custom high-top beanie has a fold-over cuff with room for your logo and an optional pom pom. When someone wears it to the grocery store, they're telling people where they work.

Caps for the warmer months. A cotton custom dad hat or a trucker hat with a mesh back works for company picnics, field days and teams that work outdoors.

To mark milestones and wins

Pins for work anniversaries. Custom soft pins are made of flexible rubber with a snag-free back that won't leave holes, so people can wear them on a bag or a hat. Button pins have a glossy cover that keeps the design from fading. Hand one out at each anniversary and people start to collect them.

An ornament with the year on it. A custom ceramic ornament comes out every December. Put the year on it, plus a word for what the team pulled off.

Here's a simple example. Say you have 80 employees, and 12 of them hit a work anniversary next year. You order 80 pairs of team socks for the holidays and 50 anniversary pins, the minimum. The 12 pins go out on each person's date, and the rest cover the year after.

To help people rest over the holidays

A blanket for the couch. A custom sherpa blanket or a lighter polar blanket is the gift that says "take the week off." Keep the logo small and in a corner.

Fuzzy socks. Custom fuzzy socks are soft and plush, with a no slip cuff. They fit a holiday box with a ceramic mug and a bag of cocoa.

For the desk and the commute

Drinkware that sits on the desk all day. A custom insulated tumbler or insulated bottle shows up on every video call. Pick a color people would buy for themselves.

A tote for everything else. A custom canvas tote bag is 100% cotton, printed in full color with your brand colors matched. It goes to the gym, the farmers market and the office.

For active and eco-minded teams

Performance socks for the run club. If your company runs a wellness challenge or has a 5K team, performance crew socks have a compression cuff and a cushioned terry bottom.

Bamboo socks for a team that cares about sustainability. Custom eco socks are 70% bamboo viscose. Add a short card that says why you picked them.

Make one gift feel personal

You don't need a different gift for every person. Three things make one gift feel like it was meant for them:

  • A note from their manager. Three or four lines that name something they did this year. It costs nothing and does more than the gift.

  • A design that belongs to your company. Your colors, your mascot, a phrase only your team uses. Sock Fancy designs for free, with unlimited revisions, and matches PMS colors.

  • Something extra for milestones. A pin or a second item at 1, 5 and 10 years shows that staying is noticed.

Welcoming new hires around the same time? The same socks can go into your employee onboarding kits.

Don't leave out remote and hybrid employees

A gift handed out at the office party misses everyone who works from home. Sock Fancy can pack and ship each gift for you: custom boxes or poly mailers, box filler, personalized inserts or holiday cards, and individual shipping to every address on a CSV you send. For more ideas, see our guide to holiday gifts for remote teams.

Why a real gift beats a gift card

A gift card is easy, but the tax rules treat it like cash. Under IRS Publication 15-B, a holiday gift other than cash with a low fair market value can be a tax-free "de minimis" benefit. Gift cards never qualify, no matter how small. So a gift card counts as taxable pay. Your payroll provider or CPA can tell you how this applies to your company.

A gift card also leaves nothing behind. The socks, the beanie or the tumbler is still around in March, with your name on it.

When an engagement gift backfires

A gift can't fix a pay or workload problem. If your team is stretched thin, a branded blanket can feel like a stand-in for what they asked for. Give the gift as a thank you, and deal with the bigger issue on its own. A few other ways gifts go wrong:

  • The logo is the design. A giant logo turns a gift into a uniform. Put the brand in the colors and a small mark.

  • Employees get the client gift. Your team notices when their box matches the one sent to customers.

  • Remote staff get theirs in January. Ship early so everyone opens theirs the same week.

When to order for the 2026 holidays

For 2026, plan to approve custom sock designs by November 20 for gifts in hand by December 18, or by December 8 for printed socks, which take 2 to 3 days. Your Sock Fancy rep can confirm exact dates. Printed socks are made in the United States, so they're the backup if you start late.

If you're shipping gifts to homes yourself, USPS lists December 17 for Ground Advantage, December 18 for Priority Mail and December 19 for Priority Mail Express as its 2026 send-by dates for Christmas delivery.

Frequently asked questions

What are employee engagement gifts?

They're gifts meant to make people feel part of the team, not only thanked. Most carry the company's own design, get used every week and come with a personal note: team socks, a beanie, an anniversary pin.

What gifts do employees actually want?

Things they'd use anyway, made well: warm socks, a good tumbler, a soft blanket, a hat. A two-question poll before you order tells you which way your team leans.

How much should we spend per employee?

Spend what fits your budget, then put it into one good item and a note rather than a box of filler. On Sock Fancy's product pages, the price per piece drops as you order more.

What is the minimum order?

Sock Fancy's product pages list a 50-piece minimum for most products, including socks, hats, pins, drinkware and blankets. Compression socks start at 100. With a smaller team, order 50 and keep the extras for new hires and next year's anniversaries.

Can we send gifts to employees who work from home?

Yes. Send Sock Fancy a CSV of home addresses, and they'll pack each gift in a custom box or mailer, add a card or insert, and ship each one on its own.
